Welcome to the Century Hotel, one of the most charming and architecturally significant boutique hotels in Miami Beach. Designed in 1939 by the legendary Art Deco architect Henry Hohauser, the Century has been impeccably renovated for the 21st century. With its modern amenities, friendly staff, and convenient Ocean Drive location in the quaint yet chic -South of Fifth Street- neighborhood, the Century is an alluring destination. In the 1920's the formal machine aesthetics of Le Courbusier, Mies van der Rohe, the Bauhaus, the Constructivists and De Stijl irrevocably blew apart classical architectural tradition. When these radical styles from the cosmopolitan north were transplanted to the breezy shores of the south, they took on a distinctively tropical tone. Perhaps the foremost exponent of the Deco genre on Miami Beach was Henry Hohauser, and it was he who, in 1939, drew the plans for the Century Hotel, a building generally considered to be among his most successful and delightful designs. In April of 1990, Century Hotel received the Miami Beach Design Preservation League award for outstanding facade preservation. The following year, there was a second, similar award, this time for interiors. Voted one of Travel and Leisure magazines -25 Stylish Hotels for under 200.00 USD- for 2001, the 26 room Century still draws celebrities and models along with a more subdued and grown-up clientele.
